Our Trip Home

We left these beautiful mountains (view from my parents back porch) and made our way back to flat, but beautiful, Iowa.

We decided that we were going to take another route back, since we were getting pretty tired of I-80.
Our first stop was Martins Cove.

I love learning about the Pioneers and I am so amazed by them and grateful for what they did. Especially the Martin and Willie Handcart Company. We were able to pull some handcarts, and to be honest, we were really tired by the end of our little trek. I don't know how the pioneers did it! Megan and Calvin and their kids were able to come with us.

The girls are throwing rocks into the Sweetwater River. This is the river where the 3 boys from the handcart company carried everyone across in the freezing ice and snow.

We hiked up to the actual cove.

The little handcarts were cute!

The we made our way up to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore

We stayed in Rapid City, which is an awesome city! Katelyn and Kylie are way into Dinosaurs right now so we were excited to find this Dinosaur Park.

There was also a park called Storybook Island, which was amazing!!! We could have spent all day there, and it was free! These are only a few of the fun things we saw and played on.

Our last stop was this place. . . The Corn Palace, all of the murals on outside and inside were made out of corn!

Thanks for sharing about your time in South Dakota! Dinosaur Park and Storybook Island are both two of my favorite places to take kids in Rapid City...isn't Storybook Island amazing?

Glad to hear that you enjoyed.
