Spud Day and Bear World

You know you are living in Idaho when going to Bear World and Spud Day are the highlight of your life from the past few months.
And they were both (of course) awesome and fun.

So a certain Aunt and Uncle named Chelsea and Jared kind of like to spoil us sometimes.
They bought a day pass to bear world and since we could have a car load, they just jumped in the van with us.

The kids absolutely loved it and had a great day.
I was actually surprised by how many bears we saw! There was a ton! And it was also fun to see the wolves, elk, moose, and buffalo.

The pass included rides and the petting area. So we rode the rides more than a few times.

 Tyson with his pretty Grandma.

The petting area was filled with adorable deer that let us feed and pet them.

They were all so sweet and cute, or so we thought.
This dear started out cute but then wouldn't stop licking us,
and following us around and chewing on our clothes, hands, and feet.
 Seriously deer, stop.
Haha, and then this was the lovely moment where he made Katelyn step backward into a pile of poop and then fall down on another piece of deer droppings.
She ended up walking away with a wet, washed out skirt, and barefoot with her shoes back in the garbage can. (They were so worn out and had holes in them anyways).
But we had a great time and the kids loved every minute. Can't wait to go back!

Ah yes, Spud Day.
Last year we were eating corn at the corn festival in Iowa and here we are this year in the land of potatoes celebrating one of the biggest days for this town.
Every year Shelley has Spud Day.
And school is even out for a two week Spud Harvest.
Spud Day starts out with a parade including
Mrs. Potato,
a ginormous potato,

girls in potato sack skirts (even Miss Idaho had a dress made entirely from a potato sack),

lot's of farm equipment,
and more candy than any other parade anywhere will ever throw out.

Then everyone goes to the city park where free baked potatoes are passed out and a ton of booths and other fun stuff is set up. There is even a huge tug of war competition over giant pit of mashed potatoes.

So about that Uncle that likes to spoil my kids. . . .
He gave the kids money to do a few fun things.
Like a game of throwing balls into cans to win fish.

They won three little goldfish. And were so proud.

And they each got to ride a pony.
It was a good day and the weather was perfect.
Just wish Troy was here to have fun with us!

How fun! I can't believe we've never been to spud day, and every year we say we will go and always end up missing it!
